Afar (Eigenbezeichnung Qafar af) ist eine kuschitische Sprache innerhalb der afroasiatischen Sprachfamilie. Gesprochen wird sie von den Afar im Dreiländereck von Äthiopien, Eritrea und Dschibuti, einer Region, zu der auch die extrem heiße Danakil-Senke gehört. Afar folgt einer SOV-Wortstellung, das Verb steht also am Satzende.
