Assamesisch ist eine indoarische Sprache und gilt als östlichste indogermanische Sprache überhaupt. Gesprochen wird sie von rund 15 Millionen Menschen vor allem im Bundesstaat Assam im Nordosten Indiens, im Tal des Brahmaputra.
