Esperanto ist eine Plansprache, die der Augenarzt L. L. Zamenhof 1887 als neutrale internationale Verständigungssprache veröffentlichte. Heute sprechen es schätzungsweise rund zwei Millionen Menschen, einige sogar als Muttersprache (denaskuloj). Geschrieben wird es im lateinischen Alphabet mit den Sonderbuchstaben ĉ, ĝ, ĥ, ĵ, ŝ und ŭ. Die Grammatik beruht auf nur 16 Grundregeln ohne Ausnahmen: Substantive enden auf -o, Adjektive auf -a, das Objekt wird mit der Endung -n markiert, und die Aussprache ist vollständig regelmäßig.
