What is Afar and where is it spoken?

Afar (Qafar af) is a Cushitic language of the Afroasiatic family, spoken by around 2 million people across Djibouti, Ethiopia and Eritrea. It uses SOV word order, has two grammatical genders, and is written in the Latin-based Qafar Feera alphabet adopted in the 1970s.

How can I practise Afar when there are few resources?

Published Afar materials are rare outside the Horn of Africa. LingoBear generates custom reading texts on topics like the Danakil Depression or Afar pastoralist culture, with tap-to-translate for every word and progress saved across sessions.
