Telugu (తెలుగు) is a Dravidian language native to the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, with around 95 million speakers — the third most-spoken native language in India. It was recognised as a classical language of India in 2008. The Telugu film industry, sometimes called Tollywood, is one of the largest film industries in India by output.
Telugu is agglutinative with SOV word order, three genders in the singular (masculine, feminine, neuter) but only two in the plural (rational vs irrational), and seven cases marked by postpositions and suffixes. Verbs encode person, number, gender, tense and mood through long chains of suffixes. It is famously called the 'Italian of the East' because almost every word ends in a vowel, giving it a rhythmic flow.
