How is Belarusian related to Russian and Ukrainian?

Belarusian (беларуская мова) is an East Slavic language, sister to Russian and Ukrainian. It is most lexically and phonologically similar to Ukrainian (estimates around 80% shared vocabulary), less so to Russian. It uses a 32-letter Cyrillic alphabet whose distinctive letter ў (short u) is not used in either Russian or Ukrainian.

What are Tarashkevitsa and Narkamauka?

Belarusian has two written norms: Narkamauka, the official orthography reformed in 1933, and Tarashkevitsa (Klasyčny pravapis), the classical orthography codified by Branisłaŭ Taraškievič in 1918 and still used by many diaspora and independent publications. LingoBear can generate texts following either norm.
