What is Guarani and where is it spoken?

Guarani (Avañe'ẽ) is a Tupi-Guarani language of South America and, with Spanish, one of the two official languages of Paraguay. Around 6.5 million people speak it, and around 90% of Paraguayans understand it. It also has smaller speaker communities in Bolivia (Guarayo, Chiriguano), northern Argentina and southern Brazil.

What grammar features does Guarani have?

Guarani distinguishes inclusive 'we' (ñande, 'us including you') from exclusive 'we' (ore, 'us excluding you'), uses nasal harmony where a nasal vowel spreads through a word, and marks nouns with possessive prefixes (che-, nde-, i-...). The 33-letter alphabet includes the glottal stop ' (puso) and tilde-marked nasal vowels. LingoBear lets you see these in real reading material.
