Is Hebrew hard to learn for English speakers?

Modern Hebrew is FSI Category III — about 1,100 hours for proficiency. The 22-letter alphabet is written right to left and most everyday text omits vowel marks (nikud). Grammar uses triconsonantal roots: k-t-v generates כתב 'wrote', כותב 'writes', מכתב 'letter', כתבה 'article'. Once you internalise the root–pattern system, vocabulary builds fast.

What is special about Modern Hebrew?

Modern Hebrew is the result of a remarkable revival: after centuries as primarily a liturgical and literary language, it was revived as a spoken language in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, largely thanks to Eliezer Ben-Yehuda. Today it is the official language of Israel with around 9 million speakers and a thriving press, cinema and pop scene.
