Luba-Katanga (Kiluba) is a Bantu language of the Niger-Congo family, native to the former Katanga province in the southeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Estimates put speakers at around 1.5 million. It is one of the four national languages of the DRC alongside Lingala, Tshiluba and Swahili, and is closely related to Luba-Kasai (Tshiluba).
Luba-Katanga uses around 19 noun classes (around 9 paired singular/plural sets) that drive agreement on adjectives, demonstratives and verbs. Verb morphology marks subject, object, tense, aspect and mood with prefixes and suffixes. The language has two contrastive tones (high and low) that carry both lexical and grammatical contrast. LingoBear lets you see these in real text.
