El nepalí (नेपाली) es una lengua indoaria de la rama pahari, lengua oficial de Nepal y una de las 22 lenguas reconocidas de la India (sobre todo en Sikkim y Darjeeling). Lo hablan unos 32 millones de personas. Está muy emparentado con el hindi, pero tiene una gramática y un núcleo de vocabulario propios con fuerte influencia sánscrita: los nepalíes pueden leer mucho texto en hindi, aunque a veces les cuesta el hindi hablado a gran velocidad.
El nepalí tiene tres niveles honoríficos (de poco respeto timī, respeto medio tapāī̃ y alto respeto hajūr), dos géneros gramaticales, ergatividad escindida en el pasado (los verbos perfectivos llevan el marcador de agente -le) y orden sujeto-objeto-verbo.
