El asamés (অসমীয়া, Ôxômiya) es la lengua indoaria más oriental, propia de Asam, en el noreste de la India, con unos 15 millones de hablantes. Es la lengua oficial de Asam y funciona como lengua franca en todo el valle del Brahmaputra. Usa el alfabeto asamés, que comparte casi todas las letras con el bengalí pero añade ৰ (ro) y ৱ (wo).
El asamés y el bengalí se separaron de un ancestro magadhano oriental común y comparten casi toda la escritura, pero el asamés tiene su propia fonología (un sonido fricativo «x» donde el bengalí tiene sh/ch), conjugaciones verbales distintas y un sistema propio de clasificadores.
