El uzbeko (Oʻzbek tili) es una lengua túrquica karluk y la lengua oficial de Uzbekistán, con unos 35 millones de hablantes en Uzbekistán, Afganistán, Tayikistán, Kirguistán, Kazajistán y Rusia. Está muy emparentado con el uigur y es una de las pocas lenguas túrquicas que ha perdido en gran parte la armonía vocálica, en parte por el largo contacto con el tayiko persa.
El uzbeko pasó del árabe al latino (1928), al cirílico (1940) y de nuevo a un alfabeto latino desde 1993. Una reforma de 2021 estandarizó el moderno Oʻzbek alifbosi latino, con oʻ para /o/ y gʻ para /ɣ/, y eliminó algunas ambigüedades. El cirílico sigue siendo común en la señalización cotidiana y la literatura antigua. La comunidad uzbeka de Afganistán continúa escribiendo en una escritura de base persoárabe.
