El bislama es un criollo de base léxica inglesa y una de las tres lenguas oficiales de Vanuatu, junto al inglés y el francés. Es la principal lengua franca del país, con unos 10.000 hablantes nativos y más de 200.000 como segunda lengua, entre más de 100 comunidades lingüísticas autóctonas. El nombre viene de bêche-de-mer (pepino de mar), un producto comercial del siglo XIX.
El bislama usa un vocabulario de origen inglés con fonología y gramática melanesias. Ejemplos reconocibles son «tank yu tumas» (muchas gracias), «wanem nem blong yu?» (¿cómo te llamas?) y «long» como preposición general. El sistema de pronombres distingue el «nosotros» inclusivo del exclusivo (yumi frente a mifala), un rasgo ausente en inglés.
