El turco es categoría IV del FSI. La reforma del alfabeto de 1928 impulsada por Atatürk le dio una escritura latina muy limpia, sin más diacríticos que ç, ğ, ı/i, ö, ş, ü, y se lee de forma muy fonética, algo cómodo para un hispanohablante. La gramática es regular y basada en reglas una vez aprendes la armonía vocálica: las vocales anteriores y posteriores no se mezclan, así que los sufijos cambian de forma para encajar (ev-ler-im «mis casas», okul-lar-ım «mis escuelas»).
El turco construye palabras apilando sufijos sobre una raíz en un orden fijo: ev (casa) → ev-ler (casas) → ev-ler-im (mis casas) → ev-ler-im-de (en mis casas) → ev-ler-im-de-ki (el/los que está(n) en mis casas). Los verbos funcionan igual y codifican tiempo, evidencialidad, persona y número. La famosa «palabra más larga» Çekoslovakyalılaştıramadıklarımızdanmışsınız significa «al parecer sois de aquellos a quienes no pudimos convertir en checoslovacos».
